WORK IN PROGRESS

“A WORK OF ART IS NEVER FINISHED. IT IS MERELY ABANDONED”

— E. M. FORSTER

I've been contemplating revisiting the artworks I've left behind over the years, considering them incomplete. It bothers me how readily I accept their current state. While I'm aware I could enhance them and make them 'better,' I struggle to muster the motivation. The dried drips on the canvas serve as temporary ellipses, leaving me in perpetual contemplation. The bold shadow and highlight strokes act as placeholders, allowing me time to discern the ideal mediations of tones and textures. Honestly, these habits mirror my insecurities, my hesitancy to showcase myself online—my hesitancy to reveal the fullness of my artistic expression.

However, I need to acknowledge that, like my paintings, I am a work in progress. Unlike Foster’s quote, I choose not to abandon myself.

As this painting is a Work in Progress, So am I.
